Big Island and State of Hawaii
Athlete Qualifying Policy
- Must be a full-time resident of the State of Hawaii for at least three years before the upcoming Ironman race.
For the 2009 race, athletes must have resided in Hawaii since at least October 10, 2006. - To be considered for a Big Island slot to the Ford Ironman World Championship, you must have resided on the Big Island for at least three years - since at least October 10, 2006.
IMPORTANT - ATHLETES COMPETING FOR BIG ISLAND OR STATE OF HAWAII SLOTS MUST READ AND COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING:
- Athletes competing for State of Hawaii or Big Island Resident Ironman slots must be full time residents of the State of Hawaii for at least three years before the upcoming Ford Ironman World Championship race.
For example, for 2009 you must have resided full time in Hawaii since October 10, 2006. Full time means not being gone for more than 4 months. Owning a vacation home in Hawaii or a full time residence elsewhere does not qualify you for residency. - Due to the three-year residency requirement, proof of residency must be submitted to the Ironman race office between February 1, 2009 and May 1, 2009. Submissions received after May 1, 2009, 4 p.m. will not be accepted.
- Residency proof must include a copy of your current State of Hawaii drivers license or State of Hawaii Identification,
PLUS ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:
- Copies of your State of Hawaii Resident tax forms from 2006, 2007, and 2008 (front page only, sensitive information covered up)
OR
- Copies of your W2 Forms from 2006, 2007, and 2008,
OR
- A letter from your employer or landlord stating length of association.
- Anyone who submitted residency information in 2008 need submit only their identification plus their 2008 State of Hawaii Tax form or W2 form.

Due to the 3-year residency requirement we will be accepting these documents after February 1, 2009 but before May 1, 2009, 4:00 p.m.
